Post-offer open days - know your choices!Monday, March 23, 2015 12:00 AM
Almost all of UCAS decisions have been released (the others will be in the next few days), and congratulations to all of you who have offers! Some of you, like me, will now be in the tricky position of having to decide which university to choose as your firm choice, and which to make your insurance choice. On the one hand, it’s nice to know that your hard work has paid off, and you have an offer, but determining where you want to live for the next three or so years can actually be a tricky task.
Post-offer open days can be a great way to get to know your university choices a little better. These are available at the majority of universities, and can give offer holders an opportunity to look around, find out more about the course and in some cases, even stay in accommodation overnight.
So why go to one of these events? They give you the opportunity to experience university life first hand. If you haven’t visited the university before then a post-offer day will allow you to see beyond your course, and get a feel for student life in that area. You can also learn more about clubs and activities in the university. Also, a post-offer day is your opportunity to ask questions. You’ve put in the work of persuading the university to make you an offer, and now you have the chance to hear why you should choose them. Don’t be afraid to put forward any questions you have, and it can be especially helpful to speak to current students.
University is a daunting prospect, but I’ve found that going to an open day can really help you know which place is right for you. And, if you’re reading this blog and haven’t applied for uni yet, or will be applying in the next few years, check out www.bestcourse4me.com to compare a range of universities and courses.
